WRVS Alums

Antonio Squire

Antonio Squire is a spring 2011 graduate of ECSU. The Garysburg, NC native has seen his childhood dream become a reality. Currently, he is an on-air personality and board operator for First Media Radio. "The education and experience I have gained in mass media production is really taking me to new heights," Squire says.

Clay Mercer

After receiving his degree, Clay was offered the Production/Imaging Director position at the now-defunct WWHV-FM (HOT 102.1) in Virginia Beach, VA. While at WWHV, Mercer also served as producer of the nationally syndicated Russ Parr Morning Show. Later, he took his talents to Washington, D.C. to work with WPGC-FM (95.5). Currently, Clay serves as the Program  Director for 89.9 WRVS-FM/HD.

Dennis Blount

Dennis went on to work for the Sheraton Radio Network. He currently works for Radio One's The LIGHT 103.9 FM in Raleigh/Durham.

Dwayne "DC" Collins

Dwayne currently resides in Washington, D.C. and serves as the On-Air Director and Producer for VOA Swahili at Voice of America. www.voanews.com 

Jonas Pope

Jonas graduated in 2002 with a major in English/Mass Communications. He is currently the Sports Editor of The Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald. Jonas has served as the Sports Editor for three years of his five years at the Daily Herald. For the first two years, Jonas worked as a stringer - working his way from stringer to full-time writer, then editor. He has also done online writing for PiratesIllustrated.com, a recruiting website for East Carolina University; Ihigh.com; and has had work published in the Raleigh News and Observer.

KD Bowe

KD went on to work for the Sheraton Radio Network. He now hosts the morning show on Praise 102.5 FM in Atlanta, GA. You can hear his voice daily on the Word Network and on various commercials including FORD. KD is also the VOICE of the Atlanta Falcons as their stadium announcer.

Kristin Wood

Kristin Wood is currently a graduate student at Regent University, studying Practical Theology with a Concentration in Worship & Renewal.  Kristin graduated from Elizabeth City State University in 2010 with a B.A. in Communication Studies. Upon graduation, she's applied her degree in communications by working at ECSU's very own WRVS.

Lolethia "DL" Underdue

Lolethia is a native of Roanoke Rapids, NC and a 1996 graduate of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU). After graduating, she worked briefly at the now defunct 980 AAA in Winston-Salem, NC where she served as a receptionist and voice-over talent. From 1997-1999, she served as the Assistant Program Director for WRVS and, eventually, as Program Director from 2001 - 2004. In 2004, she joined the staff of WNCU at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) where she served as the General Manager of the student radio station, AudioNet: Channel 9. In 2006, she became a full-time adjunct instructor at NCCU and continued as the GM of AudioNet. In 2007, she began hosting a reggae show at WNCU, called The Reggae Scene. In addition to her responsibilities as a full-time adjunct instructor and GM of AudioNet, she also currently hosts Afternoon Jazz on WNCU. 

Mike Fournier aka "dj fountz"

After winning "Best Announcer" and "Best Show" awards four years straight at WRVS, dj fountz was hired to do nights at WBHH-FM, 92.1 The Beat, for Clear Channel Norfolk. When the format was changed in 2004, he was brought over to the station's big brother, WOWI-FM, 103 JAMZ to do the much coveted afternoon drive. After consistently being rated #1, fountz was officially named Music Director in 2007. He, and the station, remained on top for the next 4 years until a company-wide reduction in force in October of 2011 drove him to move over to Entercom's WNVZ-FM, Z-104, where he worked overnights, weekends, and was graciously given 7 mixshows to spin on (a first for the station). In November of 2013, dj fountz was courted back by Clear Channel Media & Entertainment, and now works as Assistant Program Director for WOWI-FM, 103 JAMZ and WKSA-FM, KISS 92.

Omari Salisbury

Omari currently works in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is a well-known radio personality on Clouds FM.

Richard James McIntire

Richard went on to work with two community newspapers and two Maryland state agencies. McIntire also worked as the National Director of Communications for The NAACP National Offices. He is currently with the media team at the US Dept. of Agriculture Food Safety & Inspection Service.

Traci Latrelle

Traci went on to work with various radio stations on the east coast including the Miami market. Traci also earned a position at XM Satellite Radio, where she became the first in the country to program a Neo-Soul Radio Station. She is currently the music director of WHUR-FM and WHUR World HD at Howard University.

Cierra Sawyer

A 2012 graduate of ECSU having majored in Communication Studies, Cierra is currently pursuing her Master's Degree at Norfolk State University majoring in Public Relations.

Glenn Bond

A 2011 graduate of ECSU having majored in Communication Studies, Glenn is currently pursuing his Master's Degree at Norfolk State University majoring in Media Management.

Jamica Ashley

Jamica is a 2005 graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a B.A. in Communication Studies and a minor in English. Two months after graduation she began working at The Daily Southerner newspaper in Edgecombe County as a staff writer then later became assistant editor. Returning to journalism in 2009, Jamica worked as a staff writer before taking a similar position at the Lake Gaston Gazette-Observer in Littleton, N.C. on Lake Gaston as a staff writer and assistant editor. Jamica is currently earning her Master's degree through East Carolina University in English with a concentration in Multicultural Literatures.

Jarnard Davis

Jarnard Davis graduated with a degree in Communication Studies in December 2010. He currently works at ABC News Channel 12 WCTI/ Fox affiliate and WIKS 101.9 Kiss-FM in eastern North Carolina.

Jessica Barfield

Jessica is 2008 graduate of Elizabeth City State University having majored in Communication Studies. She is freelance videographer having worked with Triangle Blvd., Weople Marketing, TellurVision, Deep South Records, and Creative Force Studios in Raleigh, NC. She also interned at BET in the Creative Services department. Jessica is currently launching her own production company entitled JB Productions.

Jordan McAllister

Jordan graduated from ECSU in 2010 and received his B.A. in Communication Studies. After that, he continued to further his education and enrolled in the Master’s Degree program at Regent University where he will receive his M.A. in Communication. Aside from school, Jordan pursues acting on the side. He played detective David Meachum in the television show Wicked Attractions which aired on the Investigative Discovery channel, appeared in a Nissan of Chesapeake commercial, and most recently - played an extra in the feature film To Have and To Hold. After May he plans on joining the Air Force or teaching at the collegiate level.

Princess Harrell

Princess completed her degree in Communication Studies at ECSU in May 2012. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in Communications at the University of South Carolina. Princess is also founder and CEO of Dubbed Royal Studios.

Valez Kendrick

From Warner Robins, GA, Valez is a 2002 graduate of ECSU where he majored in English with a concentration in Mass Communication. He worked for four years as a Master Control Operator at Fox affiliate, WGXA Fox 24 in Macon, GA. Currently, Valez works at CNN in the same capacity.
