The Biology program, in keeping with the Mission statement for the Department of Natural Sciences at Elizabeth City State University, the Biology program offers baccalaureate and master’s degrees to a diverse student population. By integrating technology and active learning in the classroom through innovative and flexible educational experiences, the program fosters an environment that meets the students where they are, while helping them reach their full potential. The program provides virtual, face-to-face and hands-on experiences that prepare students for biological careers in research, science teaching and entry into graduate medical, dental, veterinary or other health-related schools.

Our program strives to give our students a working understanding of the biological sciences while emphasizing the following skill sets;

  • Analysis, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Synthesizing and team working

Bachelor of Science in Biology

concentrations:
General Biology
Molecular Biology/ Biotechnology
Comprehensive Science Licensure
Pre-Medicine/Pre-Dentistry

In addition, we offer a flexible Minor in Biology, obtained by any ECSU student that completes the 20 credits in Biology courses prescribed in the catalog.

BS Biology Graduates are well positioned to enter into Professional Programs such as Medical School, Dental School, Veterinary School, Pharmacy School and Medical Technology programs

BS Biology graduates are well position to continue into graduate programs at the M.S. and Ph.D. level.

BS Biology graduates are well positioned for lateral entry as high school and middle school science teachers.

The Biology program offers prerequisite coursework for students attempting entry into Nursing and other Health Related Programs.

Students in the Biology program have the opportunity to conduct undergraduate research under a number of federally funded programs.
