Department of Business & Economics
Welcome to Elizabeth City State University's Department of Business and Economics! The Department of Business and Economics is excited to have the chance to introduce students to business and accounting concepts and to shape tomorrow's business professionals. The DBE holds AACSB accreditation, which means it ranks among the top 5% of business schools worldwide, giving students a world-class education at a hometown price.
Our students experience business in a variety of different ways. With Bachelors of Science programs in Business Administration and Accounting, our students prepare for careers in a variety of different types of businesses. Students majoring in Business Administration further concentrate their career preparation in at least one of the five focus areas: Entrepreneurship, Economics and Finance, Management, Marketing, and Management Information Systems. All Accounting and Business Administration students also undertake a one-semester internship to help them prepare for the transition from education to career. Interns have been placed in more than 20 counties within North Carolina, as well as in several additional states. The DBE also boasts a state of the art finance lab with dual-screen trading positions just like those in trading rooms in major corporations. Students interested in banking will be pleased to know that the software taught in our banking classes is the same American Bankers Association software used in major banks.
Our faculty prides itself on getting to know our students. With a smaller class size (average 14:1), students interact frequently with faculty members and are afforded the opportunity to work with faculty closely through both extracurricular activities and on various research and service learning projects.
For students with an interest in business who are majoring in other disciplines, we offer minors in Entrepreneurship and Business Administration. While we are not authorized to offer degree programs fully on-line, we do offer on-line course work. Individuals both with and without college degrees are also able to earn a certificate in Entrepreneurship.
In order to provide and maintain high quality academic programs continuously, our faculty members engage in scholarly, pedagogical and practice-oriented research, benefit from ongoing professional development, and are involved on a regular basis with the business community. Our faculty's dedication to life-long learning and the delivery of leading-edge contents ensure our students a state-of-the-art education. We in the Department of Business and Economics take pride in presenting high quality academic programs that nurture personal, professional and overall intellectual growth and development of our most valuable assets, our students.
