Department of General Studies

Department of university Studies

The Department of University Studies assists all students in their transition to the university.  Its goals are to provide effective academic advisement to students; to offer strong programs of academic support in reading, writing, mathematics, and the natural sciences through a robust General Education curriculum; and to work with other academic departments to ensure that students develop the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for success in all academic majors.

  • Assist undecided majors with the exploration and selection of an academic major and encourage the pursuit of self-discovery and excellence in scholarship through our high-impact First-Year Experience services.
  • Provide academic advising services that help students connect academic and career planning.
  • Provide students with shared academic experiences and the opportunity to explore new subjects and perspectives through a General Education curriculum that supports student growth and preparation for entrance into a global society.
  • Provide tutorial and academic support services in a variety of subject areas, particularly in courses found in the General Education Curriculum.
