Dr. Andre P. Stevenson is the Director of the Office of International Programs. He also serves as professor of Social Work in the Department of Health and Human Studies and primarily teaches Research Methods and Social Policy. In addition, he serves as director of the University Honors Program. Dr. Stevenson has published in numerous peer reviewed journals and has served as guest co-editor for the Journal of Social Work Education and the Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment.
He continues to publish in the areas of global learning and study abroad, focusing heavily on the role of HBCUs and other MSIs in the creation of study abroad opportunities for students. He worked with faculty to establish a Global Learning Visits Program at Bowie State University while serving as department chair, and has presented at national and international conferences on the topic of study abroad and global education. He has traveled to over 30 countries and worked abroad in South Africa as faculty with the Foundation for Professional Development/Yale University's School of Public Health Advanced Health Management Program. He has also worked in Rwanda where he served as a curriculum development consultant with the National University of Rwanda.
Dr. Stevenson holds memberships in several study abroad related organizations. They include, but are not limited to, Study Abroad Association, Diversity Abroad, Alliance Abroad Group, and Worldwide Cultural Exchange.
Appointed to the director's position in 2019, he is passionate about providing students with greater access to the world. He believes such access can be easily attained through global learning and intercultural experiences.
