The Sustainability Studies program, in keeping with the Mission statement for the Department of Natural Sciences at Elizabeth City State University, offers baccalaureate degrees to a diverse student population. This is the most recent addition to the departmental programs and aims to train the next generation of students who will be responsible to address the pressing environmental challenges the global population is currently facing. The program faculty integrate technology and active learning in the classroom. Through innovative and flexible educational experiences, the program fosters student engagement in hands-on training on environmental, social with special emphasis on behavioral health, technological and entrepreneurship aspects of sustainability.
Through a set of well-designed and focused courses, students will receive a firm knowledge of basic sustainability principles and will also get the opportunity to focus on their area of interest by delving more in-depth in one of the three programmatic concentrations.
The Sustainability Studies program focuses on the following skills in the context of solving global sustainability issues by addressing them locally;
