Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees are due on  Friday, August 6, 2021 prior to Official Registration for Fall semester and on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 for Spring semester. All students are expected to meet their financial obligations to the University promptly. It is each student's responsibility to keep parents or guardians informed of all statements of accounts if the parents or guardians are paying the bills. Parents can be set up as authorized users on Self Service Banner to review and print the bills as they deem necessary. All billing is electronic and students must pay their bill timely to prevent schedule cancellations.

If you have not accepted your financial aid, set up payment plans as required or completed your payment by the August 6th deadline, your classes will be cancelled for non-payment. Please Note: If you have not completed your FASFA, you will not be awarded financial aid. The awarding of financial aid does not prevent your classes from dropping; financial aid is not recognized as a source of payment until you complete all financial aid requirements. Students utilizing financial aid as a source of payment should check for any unsatisfied requirements and complete those urgently. Students should check to determine if they have been selected for verification and submit those documents promptly.



What's New - Fall 2021 Per-Credit Hour Tuition Rate

Starting Fall 2021, tuition will be assessed at per credit hour rates for all new students, and for continuing students who are not a part of the NC Fixed Tuition program.

The new per-credit-hour tuition is an initiative across all University of North Carolina System schools. This new model will eliminate the “stair-step” method previously used to bill campus courses for many years creating an equitable tuition rate for campus and distance education programs or courses.

  • Tuition rates will no longer be assessed using stair-step methodology unless you are in the Fixed Tuition Group
  • The per-credit-hour tuition rate only includes tuition and does not include fees.
  • Distance Learning (DL) tuition will be assessed at the same per credit hour rate as campus tuition for both undergraduate and graduate students (residents and non-residents) unless you are a part of the Fixed Tuition Program.
  • Distance Learning tuition will be capped at the full-time enrollment level of 12 (Undergraduate) and 9 (Graduate) credit hours. No additional tuition will be charged for credit hour enrollment totals greater than these levels.
  • All fees for undergraduate students will continue to be assessed at a stair-step method. Graduate fees will be prorated as part-time or full-time. 
  • Summer tuition rate assessment is not changing

Fixed Tuition Program

Continuing students in the Fixed Tuition Program will continue to be billed under the previous stair-step model.  Fixed Tuition is a program passed by the North Carolina General Assembly (North Carolina General Statute 116-143.9) that requires tuition rates be fixed for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters (not including summer sessions) for qualifying North Carolina residents attending any UNC system institution and pursuing a first bachelor's degree. Eligible students enrolled full-time or part-time can receive the Fixed Tuition benefit.

The program is designed as a cohort model. For example, eligible students who enrolled for the first time at ECSU in Fall 2020 will be charged the tuition rate for Fall 2020 for the next 8 consecutive semesters.

Note: Some or all instructional formats for all or part of the 2021-22 academic year may change due to the public health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As has always been the case, tuition and fees are charged at the beginning of the semester and will remain in place regardless of any changes in instructional format. Tuition and fees will not be refunded in the event that instructional format changes for any part of the 2021-22 academic year.

: The Health Insurance Fee will be charged to all students enrolled in six or more credit hours. Students who have a comparable health insurance plan should log onto to waive the fee by September 10, 2021 for the Fall 2020  semester and January 31, 2022 for spring.

Book rental: $360.00 per semester (optional) for undergraduate students only and charged in advance for all students enrolled full-time. To have the fee removed, contact the Office of Student Accounts via email at Please send communication using your campus email account.
