Dr. Sharma is a Professor of Accounting in the Department of Business, Accounting, and Sports Management at ECSU. He has a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting. He also has a Master of Commerce (M. Com) and a post-master's degree, the Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) - both with a concentration in Accounting.
He joined ECSU in 2009 with several years of experience in college-level teaching and administration. His teaching areas are Financial and Managerial Accounting, Forensic Accounting, Cost Accounting, Auditing, and Advanced Accounting courses. He has also taught Quantitative Methods, Operations Management, Ethics, and Strategic Management to undergraduates. He is a member of the American Accounting Association (AAA), International Association for Accounting Education & Research (IAAER), The Association of Accountants and Financial Professionals in Business (IMA), and an associate member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
He has authored several books in accounting and published articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is on the editorial board of a peer-reviewed journal: Accounting and Finance Research. He has presented papers, reviewed papers, and volunteered as a discussant at American Accounting Association conferences. He is trained on a case study method of teaching, online instruction, and a Faculty Development in International Business (Accounting) program in South Africa, Mozambique, and Swaziland. He recently completed a Cybersecurity Fundamentals for Finance, and Accounting Professionals offered by AICPA, 5-course Business Statistics and Analysis certificate from Rice University, 5-courses Business Analytics certificate from Penn State, and 5-courses Business Strategy certificate from University of Virginia, all three provided by Coursera. He has also attended several seminars, workshops, and conferences relating to accounting, finance, data analytics, and AACSB accreditation.
Apart from teaching and research, he actively serves on various committees within the department and the university.
