Clery Notification

clery notification

This Emergency Notification is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Education Clery Act, which guides what health and safety information universities share with their campus.

As you return to campus, we want to remind you that COVID-19 is still present in Elizabeth City and the surrounding areas. We all must take steps to slow the spread of the disease. The intent of this message is to share information about ECSU COVID-19 resources and protocols for the fall semester. The Viking website outlines all the safety precautions the University is taking to minimize the spread of the virus.

Protecting our Vikings

You are no longer required to wear a mask on campus.  While the mask mandate is lifted, you are welcome to wear a mask based upon your personal preference.  Exceptions: you must wear a mask when visiting Student Health and in laboratories.  Personal responsibility is encouraged to the campus community as it is related to safety and CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

Communication

The University will not communicate broadly about individual positive cases, consistent with the State Human Resources Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, as well as other privacy considerations. Individuals who have been potentially exposed to the positive case will be notified through the University’s contact tracing procedures. The University will determine the release of non-identifying communications about clusters of positive results based on approved guidelines.

Health and Wellness

It is our collective responsibility to keep campus as safe as possible, so it is critical that you conduct a daily self-screening for COVID-19-related symptoms prior to reporting to campus.

If a student or employee is having COVID-19 symptoms or has been directly exposed to COVID, they can schedule to be tested by Student Health Services by making an appointment online in the health portal.  Tests are by appointment only.  Presently, there is no mandatory tests prior to students and employees re-entry to campus.  Students and employees that test positive and are part of a special population (ex: football team, band, Greek organization, or department) may receive mandatory testing to ensure the safety of that group and our general campus community.  That determination is made by Student Health Services and based on CDC guidelines for COVID-19.

The ECSU Banner website will be updated regularly so we encourage community members to reference the resource frequently.
