Spring 2022 Alert - Students

ECSU continues to follow recommendations from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) related to the COVID virus, and watches for updates to CDC guidance.  The Omicron variant is contagious and is sweeping across the United States, and to help protect the health and safety of everyone on our campus, we are delaying the start of the Spring 2022 semester until Tuesday, January 18.

Why the Delay?

We are opening campus later in January to help reduce the exposure to COVID following the New Year’s holiday, while still giving enough advance notice to revise any travel plans.  If this change creates an unforeseen financial burden on your family, please review information about our Student Assistance Fund to see if we can possibly assist you.

Move-in Dates / Required to Return

  1. All residential students returning to campus (who have been cleared financially through Student Accounts) are required to submit a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of returning to campus. This is a requirement for all residential students regardless of vaccination status since someone can still spread the virus, even without showing symptoms.

  1. If a student is not able to provide negative COVID test documentation, a rapid antigen test will be administered to them upon their arrival. The test must return negative in order to garner entrance to the residence hall.

  2. Move-in will occur January 15 – 16 within pre-scheduled time blocks assigned by Housing & Residence Life. Watch your email for your new date and time.

  1. If you received a COVID vaccination or booster shot over winter break, starting January 5, 2022, you will be able to upload a photo of your updated vaccination card online on the Viking Wellness Portal at medicatconnect.com.

  2. Masks will be required in all indoor facilities. Let’s take personal responsibility to help mitigate health and safety concerns.

Tuition Due Date Changed:  Spring 2022 tuition will now be due January 10, 2022. The complete academic calendar will be updated by January 7.

Get Your Vaccination + Booster Shots

Unfortunately, it looks like COVID will be with us for quite a while.  Please get vaccinated – we cannot stress this enough.  A COVID vaccination protects you AND your friends and family.  Once vaccinated, you are less likely to catch the virus (and, therefore, cannot spread it to others), or become seriously ill.  Millions of people in the U.S. have received COVID-19 vaccines, which have undergone intensive safety monitoring.  COVID-19 vaccines were developed using decades-old scientific methods.

Please visit the vaccination clinic right on the ECSU campus in the K.E. White Graduate Center.  The clinic is open every Wednesday and Thursday from Noon to 7:00P.M. and no appointments are necessary – walk-ins only. The vaccines.gov website is also good resource for clinics across the state.

No vaccination = weekly testing

We look forward to seeing you back on campus soon.  Be safe and stay well!
