Baccalaureate Degree Plans

Transfer Guide Overview

Transfer Guides, formerly known as Baccalaureate Degree Plans (BDPs) have been developed by University of North Carolina universities to help NC Community College (NCCC) students have more seamless transfer experiences. Transfer Guides have been created to support NCCC students who are pursuing a transfer pathway outlined by the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) or other specified Uniformed Articulation Agreement (UAA). Transfer Guides outline meaningful coursework at the community college that leads to both associate degree completion and bachelor degree completion at a student’s intended university. Using Transfer Guides to create an effective transfer plan using the Transfer Guides, students should:

  • Work with an academic advisor at the community college and connect with the university contact listed on each Transfer Guide as questions arise.
  • Ensure they are using the most up-to-date Transfer Guide by reviewing the academic year and revision date published on each Transfer Guide (Transfer Guides are updated annually). Note: Some information on the Transfer Guides may not apply to students transferring before associate degree completion and/or dual-enrolled high school students. These students are encouraged to speak with their community college advisor and intended university for more information and guidance on NCCC course selection.

Transfer Guide Details

Each Transfer Guide provides important transfer information including admissions requirements, NCCC course recommendations, university equivalency information, and remaining university coursework needed upon transferring. All NCCC course recommendations on the Transfer Guides are labeled as one of the following to help students select the most meaningful CC coursework and to better understand the university requirements fulfilled by the recommended courses:

  • General Education: Course meets a General Education requirement at the university.
  • Required Course: Critical course or prerequisite that is required for major/university curriculum and should be taken at community college before transferring. If not taken before transferring, it could impact the student’s admission directly into a major, access to other major courses at the university, and/or the time needed to complete the bachelor’s degree.
  • Required for Admission to University: Transfer admissions requirement for the university (not major).
  • Suggested Course: Course could fulfill a major/university requirement and is a good option if available at CC but does not need to be taken before transferring. The course can be taken upon transferring without impact on the bachelor’s degree completion timeline.
  • Elective: Transfers as elective credit or applies toward the elective portion of the bachelor’s degree at the university.
  • General Transfer Credit: Transferable course awarding credit but does not fulfill any requirements within a bachelor’s degree program.
