Elizabeth City, NC  — Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) announced its participation in the Amazon-MLU Educators Consortium and Transformation Alliance, a groundbreaking initiative that equips institutions with the tools, training and industry expertise to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into college-level instruction.

This transformative collaboration is part of Amazon’s Machine Learning University Educator Enablement Program (MLU-EEP), which empowers faculty with open-source, industry-aligned AI/ML content, hands-on training and support for developing new and enhanced courses and programs. ECSU faculty will benefit from a long-term community of practice and curated resources that can be seamlessly embedded into existing curricula—preparing students for in-demand careers in AI and ML.

“We are excited to see the work at Elizabeth City State University for delivering high-quality, hands-on AI experiences for students. This is the kind of productive collaboration that we hoped for when we established Amazon’s Machine Learning University Educator Enablement Program (MLU-EEP). We look forward to seeing the impact that ECSU students will have throughout their careers,” said Scott Wiltamuth, Director of Database & AI Leadership at Amazon Web Services.

Through this initiative, ECSU will collaborate with peer institutions and Amazon leaders to expand AI/ML learning opportunities, address the growing skills gap in emerging technologies, and promote access to cutting-edge education in underserved communities.

“ECSU is committed to providing our students and faculty with innovative learning opportunities that meet the demands of today’s workforce,” said Dr. Gloria Payne, Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. “This collaboration with Amazon affirms our mission to be a leader in STEM education and positions our graduates for success in tomorrow’s tech-driven economy.”

This alliance reflects ECSU’s ongoing dedication to academic excellence, industry collaboration, and the development of a future-ready talent pipeline in the field of AI and ML.
