Hazing Prevention

Hazing Transparency Report Resources Report an Incident

At Elizabeth City State University, we believe in the power of student involvement to foster personal growth, academic achievement, and lifelong success. Whether it’s through athletics, student organizations, Greek life, or academic clubs, participation in campus life plays a vital role in helping students feel connected and supported.

However, when hazing becomes part of that experience, it undermines the very foundation of our community. Hazing can cause emotional, physical, and psychological harm. It introduces unnecessary risk, disrupts academic focus, and fosters an environment of secrecy, exclusion, and fear rather than belonging and support.

Hazing has no place at ECSU.

It does not build loyalty, trust, or leadership. Instead, it increases vulnerability, often involves reckless or negligent behavior, and interferes with our shared mission of academic excellence and personal development.

In alignment with ECSU’s core values of Accountability, Commitment, Excellence, Collaboration, and Inclusion, we are committed to maintaining a campus environment that is safe, respectful, and free from hazing in any form. This means working together—students, faculty, staff, and organization leaders—to create a culture of care, transparency, and shared responsibility.
